I think that it depends a great deal on the child/adult and their confidence and skill levels. It also depends a great deal on the stallion. Brooke started Blaze when she was 11 almost exclusively by herself (under the watchful eye of parents and other trainers). I have no doubts that your grandchildren will have the skill, education with horses and great stock to be able to do much the same.
